Summary

The article discusses the importance of real-time condition assessment of power system assets for effective asset management. Traditional budgeting methods, such as incremental and zero-based budgeting, have limitations in reflecting the actual condition of assets. The authors propose a condition-based asset management approach that combines financial and engineering information to determine asset degradation and calculate budget requirements. The approach uses Fuzzy Logic to process equipment-related expert knowledge and condition-relevant monitoring data in real-time. A case study demonstrates the application of this approach to three power transformers, showing the potential for significant cost savings compared to traditional depreciation methods.
