Summary

The Queensland Wader Study Group (QWSG) completed its fifth year of monthly counts at the Port of Brisbane Corporation in 2007, recording 53,780 waders and 15,931 waterbirds. The largest count of waders was in January with 8,853 birds. Notable sightings included 454 Pacific Golden Plovers in January and 677 in February at site S3B, and 974 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers in October at the same site. Other notable records included 1571 Little Terns in January and 907 in March at site R2, and 119 Red Knots in October at the same site. Flagged birds were also seen throughout the reclamation area, with green flags on various species and orange flags on Red Knots and Caspian Terns. Breeding records were noted for Red-capped Plovers and Pied Oystercatchers, with several chicks recorded at various sites. Other interesting sightings included Peregrine Falcons, Great Cormorants, Black Swans, and Pink-eared Ducks. A juvenile Black-necked Stork was also rescued after being seen with a rubber ring around its bill.
