Summary

A research project explored teaching practices in higher and further education to understand how technology can support digital learning environments. Five themes emerged: teaching places, students, change and innovation, organizational support, and technology. Teachers face challenges such as inflexible learning spaces, lack of support, and bureaucracy, but are finding workarounds, including using digital technologies to connect with students and develop their practice. Recommendations include using digital technologies to optimize teaching spaces, providing opportunities for staff to reflect on their teaching, and supporting creative approaches to teaching. Institutions should prioritize trust, flexibility, and effective communication to support innovative teaching practices.
