The article describes a research project that used Physical and CFD modeling to study the velocity field during the flow around bridge piers. The physical modeling was conducted in a laboratory using a hydraulic flume with a width of 1 m and a length of 12 m. Three shapes of gridiron pillars were tested at three angles of deflection and three flow rates. The velocity field was measured using the PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) method, which involved a double-pulse laser and a camera. The results of the PIV measurements were used to compare with CFD results obtained using the commercial software ANSYS CFX. The study aimed to obtain high-quality data for the initial calibration and subsequent verification of the CFD model. The findings of the project provided insights into the basic characteristics of the flow along the pillars and the influence of the shape and direction of deflection of the pillars on the flow.
