The Equality Act 2010 prohibits disability discrimination in the workplace, defining disability as a physical or mental impairment with a substantial and long-term adverse effect on daily activities. The Act covers direct and indirect discrimination, discrimination arising from disability, failure to make reasonable adjustments, victimisation, and harassment. It applies to all employers in Great Britain, including recruitment, employment, and vocational training, and protects workers, apprentices, and others. Direct discrimination occurs when someone is treated less favourably because of their disability, and cannot be justified. The Act also covers perceived and associative discrimination, and allows for more favourable treatment of disabled persons to "level the playing field".
