The asteroids have a continuum of sizes, with two large ones comparable in size to 19 and 14 km in diameter, and the rest ranging from 2-7 km. The low ejection velocities suggest gravitational re-accumulation may be common in asteroid evolution. The discovery provides insight into impact physics and can be used to check numerical models of larger-scale collisions. The asteroid family's orbital distribution fits inside "equivelocity" ellipses, indicating the disruption event occurred near perihelion with fragments ejected in nearly isotropic directions. Numerical integration of the orbits suggests the cluster is young, with an age of around 5.8 million years, making it potentially the first essentially unaltered disruption structure identified in the main belt.
