On May 8, 2019, the Japan Society of Civil Engineers' International Activities Center held a joint seminar with PII (Indonesian Society of Civil and Structural Engineers) at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya, Indonesia. The seminar focused on research, standards, and utilization of blast furnace slag and fly ash concrete. Japanese presenters discussed various topics, including performance assessment, application, and durability of concrete containing high-volume mineral admixtures. Indonesian presenters introduced regulations and applications of fly ash and blast furnace slag in Indonesia. The seminar aimed to promote the use of these materials in Indonesia and to introduce Japanese concrete technology and standards.

Additionally, the Japan Society of Civil Engineers' International Center held a site tour for international students on February 25, 2019, at JR Shibuya Station, where a large-scale renovation project was underway. The students learned about the project's background, features, and construction methods, and they asked questions during the tour.

The Safety Problem Research Committee of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers was established in 1990 and aims to investigate and research safety problems related to civil engineering accidents and disasters. The committee holds regular safety problem discussion meetings and participates in the Safety Engineering Symposium. It also conducts lectures for citizens on disaster prevention and creates leaflets on emergency response and disaster prevention.

The Underground Space Research Committee of the Japan Society of Civil Engineers was established in 1994 and focuses on the use of underground space, including its effective utilization, convenience, and safety. The committee has four subcommittees: planning, disaster prevention, psychology, and maintenance. It holds an annual Underground Space Symposium, where experts from various fields present their research and discuss topics related to underground space. The committee also conducts site tours and seminars to promote the use of underground space and to raise awareness about its importance.
