The integration of Islam into English literary studies is part of a broader concept of integrating Islam into human knowledge, which involves looking at academic disciplines from Islamic perspectives. Muslim students and academicians often experience a sense of irreconcilability and mutual exclusivity with English literature, which is perceived as a colonial subject associated with hostility towards Islam and Muslims. The introduction of English studies in colonized countries was motivated by imperialist intentions, aiming to establish cultural domination and containment. Scholars like Nietzsche, Gramsci, Foucault, and Said argue that Western knowledge is not neutral and is used to establish hegemonic control over other nations and races. The perception of incongruity between Islamic values and English studies is based on prejudice, ignorance, and cultural domination, which has led to divisions within Muslim society, including the divergence between Islam and English education, and between the ulama and the English-educated elite.
