Summary

This chapter discusses the research methodology used to investigate the role of frequency on students' -ing form constructions. The study employed a mixed-methods model, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches. The research design involved giving a test in the form of essay writing to elicit -ing form and establishing interviews to realize students' perception in the compositions of -ing form. A chart review was also designed to collect -ing form categories according to students' tendency and accuracy. The participants consisted of 100 undergraduate students in the English department at a university in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, classified into higher and lower proficiency groups. The data collection techniques included quantitative and qualitative methods, such as chart reviews, essay writings, and interviews. The research instrument was designed to elicit -ing form data and included tables to categorize students' tendency, accuracy, and misconceptions in constructing -ing forms.
