Summary

Researchers investigated the relationship between strategic thinking and social preferences by conducting experiments with 195 undergraduate students. The experiments consisted of dictator games to control for social preferences and a guessing game to measure depth of strategic thinking. Results showed that self-regarding subjects exhibited more strategic sophistication than other subjects when comparing within the same degree of strategic reasoning. The study used the Iterated Best Reply model to classify subjects' levels of reasoning and found that self-regarding subjects made more strategic choices in the guessing game.
