Summary

This study explored the impact of global learning interventions on students' mental health and wellbeing at an autistic specific secondary school. The mixed-methods design included student and teacher interviews, as well as a mental health and wellbeing questionnaire. The findings indicated a small but significant improvement in mental health and wellbeing among students who participated in global learning-focused lessons. Eight cross-cutting themes emerged as potentially beneficial aspects of global learning, including opportunities for experiential learning, participation, and self-directed learning. The study suggested that global learning approaches can be beneficial for young people with special educational needs, particularly those with Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD), and highlighted the need for further research in this area.
