Summary

Omar Sharkasi and Martin George Wynn's 2011 research paper, "Deployment evaluation of accounting information systems in Libyan commercial banks," examines the implementation and deployment of accounting information systems in Libyan commercial banks. The study uses a case study approach, initially screening 14 main Libyan banks and then conducting an in-depth study of three banks. The results show that Libyan banks have made significant progress in installing modern packaged software, but could utilize these systems more effectively to optimize business processes and improve efficiencies. Key issues include training and upskilling staff in the use of these systems and infrastructure. The study demonstrates how models developed for application in the developed world can be adapted and applied to assess information systems in a developing world commercial environment.
