Summary

Empowering methodologies in organizational and social research involve creating spaces for qualitative researchers to equalize power differentials with participants, inviting those who are othered, oppressed, or exploited to participate in knowledge production. This approach challenges established inequalities, draws on perspectives like feminism, critical, decolonial, and participatory research, and raises epistemological questions about the meaning and practice of research. Empowering methodologies acknowledge the uncertainty of knowing, the importance of values in producing knowledge, and the need to reconsider power relations in research.
