Summary

The 'Places to Grow' Programme aims to improve Early Childhood Development (ECD) services in Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia. A study visit took place in Ghent, Belgium, and Leiden, Netherlands, from 20-24 March 2023, where representatives from the three countries visited integrated ECEC service locations and met with professionals. The visit explored cross-sectorial and interagency work in early years services and policy, and community-based inclusive early childhood education and care services. Participants learned about various topics, including the importance of integrating research with policies and practice, evidence-based practices in ECEC services, and the transition from childcare to formal education. They also discussed policy and practice differences between Belgium and their home countries, and how to reach and interact with different kinds of families. The study visit was part of the programme's goal to enhance competencies in providing high-quality and inclusive ECEC services, and to support cross-country capacity building and peer-mentoring.
