Summary

The Provost's Office has completed its review of the School of Music and made preliminary recommendations, including:
- Continuing some programs at their current level of activity,
- Continuing others with specific actions such as reducing faculty positions,
- Discontinuing some programs, including BM Music Performance: Jazz and Commercial Music, MM Collaborative Piano, MM Composition, and MM Jazz Pedagogy.
The unit must submit an initial staffing plan for the teach-out process by September 8, 2023, and a full teach-out plan by October 31, 2023, if the Board of Governors approves the recommendations.
The number of faculty positions in the unit should be reduced to 33, with a Reduction in Force Plan to be developed by the Provost's Office.
Faculty and staff must be notified of the recommendations within 24 hours, and any appeals must be submitted by August 18, 2023.
