Summary

Errors in operational spreadsheets are prevalent and can have significant financial impacts on organizations. A study of 25 operational spreadsheets from five organizations found 381 potential errors, with 117 (31%) confirmed as errors by the developers. Of these confirmed errors, 47 (40%) had no quantitative impact, while the remaining 70 errors had a significant impact, with the largest error being $100 million. The study suggests that the impact of errors in spreadsheets is a significant concern, with 57% of managers agreeing that spreadsheet errors are a significant threat to decisions.
