The article discusses the main difficulties of teaching oral speech to students of a non-linguistic university and ways to solve them. The analysis of domestic literature reveals that there are many methods of teaching speaking, but the problem remains relevant. The definition of the concept of speaking is clarified, and the main signs of speaking are identified as motivation, goal, and communicative situation. A survey of students at the Ryazan State Medical University named after I.P. Pavlov reveals that the language barrier, lack of ideas, thoughts, and low motivation are the main problems in teaching oral speech. The article highlights the importance of increasing students' motivation, taking them out of their comfort zone, and actively enriching their vocabulary to overcome the language barrier. The specifics of teaching students to speak in classes at a medical university are revealed, and a set of exercises that contribute to effective learning is presented.
