Summary

The second CITA programme on emission testing at periodic and other inspections consisted of five studies:
(a) a 'best practice' procedure for measuring exhaust emissions from petrol vehicles,
(b) motorcycle exhaust emissions and noise,
(c) the use of OBD during periodic inspection,
(d) the influence of catalyst temperature on the effectiveness of periodic inspection, and
(e) the feasibility of a large scale data gathering exercise.
The programme aimed to improve current procedures and specify new ones to control emissions from low emission vehicles, addressing gaps in EU Directive 96/96/EC.
The studies were funded by the EU Commission and participating organizations, with conclusions and recommendations representing a consensus of the views of the organizations involved.
