Summary

Delegates are requested to bring their copies to meetings and not request additional copies due to economy reasons. The Intergovernmental Committee for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety's third meeting will discuss the Biosafety Clearing-House, a critical component for implementing the Biosafety Protocol. The Protocol obliges parties to communicate decisions and inform other parties through the Biosafety Clearing-House. Regional workshops identified capacity-building needs, including developing human resources and technical expertise, building and maintaining infrastructure, developing institutional synergies, and creating a non-web, non-Internet based system. A synthesis of these needs is provided to assist the Committee in considering a capacity-building program.
