Summary

The American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) thanks Secretary Alex Azar for allocating resources to providers during the COVID-19 public health emergency. ACG members' practices are being impacted by the economic fallout, affecting their ability to serve patients. Gastroenterologists provide critical services for patients with chronic illnesses and are suffering due to cancelled non-emergent procedures. The ACG appreciates the Department's efforts to reduce regulatory burdens and the disbursement of funds from the CARES Act's Provider Relief Fund. However, with the Small Business Administration's Paycheck Protection Program exhausting its funds, the ACG urges the Department to allocate additional resources from the Provider Relief Fund to procedure-based specialty physician practices, such as gastroenterologists, to maintain their viability during the COVID-19 pandemic.
