Die anrechenbaren Mietzinsmaxima für Ergänzungsleistungen sind seit 2001 unverändert geblieben, obwohl die durchschnittlichen Netto-Mietkosten in der Schweiz um 21% gestiegen sind. Dies führt dazu, dass immer weniger Menschen eine Wohnung im Rahmen der geltenden Mietzinsmaxima finden können, insbesondere gesundheitlich beeinträchtigte Personen. Eine Anpassung der Mietzinsmaxima ist notwendig, um den betroffenen Menschen eine angemessene Existenz zu sichern. Die Verzögerung der Anpassung ist nicht zu rechtfertigen, da die Kantone und die politischen Vorstösse eine rasche Anpassung unterstützen. Die Anpassung der Mietzinsmaxima hat nichts mit der Gesamtreform des EL-Systems zu tun und präjudiziert nicht die Entscheide im Rahmen der Gesamtreform.
