Summary

The ENERGY STAR Single-Family New Homes program reduces energy usage in single-family homes while improving comfort, indoor air quality, and durability. Eligible homes include site-built, modular, detached single-family homes, detached duplexes, and townhouses. Key elements include above-code performance, energy rating, complete thermal enclosure system, properly sized HVAC system, bedroom comfort vents, whole-house fresh air system, kitchen and bath fans, MERV 6+ filter, combustion safety, and complete water management system. Eight key features are required, verified by a Rater during inspections. ENERGY STAR certified homes can earn a $2,500 federal tax credit. Builders can get started by finding a Rater and signing the EPA's free ENERGY STAR Partnership Agreement.
