Summary

Croatia's Long-Term Strategy (LTS) aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and decouple economic growth from emissions. The strategy presents three scenarios: a reference scenario, a gradual transition scenario, and a strong transition scenario, with projected GHG emission reductions of -56.8% to -73.1% by 2050. The LTS includes targets for renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, and emission reductions by sector, with estimated additional investment needs of €8.7 billion for 2021-2030 and €22.2 billion for 2031-2050. The strategy has a legal status and was adopted by the Parliament in June 2021, but has some gaps in mandatory elements, such as emission reductions and removals in LULUCF and socio-economic impact assessment.
