Summary

As of November 1, 2015, ORVs used on Crown lands must be registered with ICBC and display a number plate, either an ORV plate or an active Restricted plate. Unlicensed ORVs can be registered for off-highway use and display an ORV plate without a decal. Licensed and insured ORVs can operate incidentally on highways with a licence/insurance decal on the ORV plate. Eligible vehicles for ORV registration include ATVs, trucksters, dune buggies, motorcycles, snowmobiles, and golf carts. An ORV plate must be displayed on the vehicle, and the operator must carry the Certificate of Registration when operating on Crown land. To operate on highways, the vehicle must be licensed and insured, and a validation decal must be attached to the ORV plate. Certain operations, such as crossing highways at intersections or loading/unloading in parking lots, are allowed without an Operation Permit, but other highway operations require a permit.
