Rice Creek Watershed District held a Community Resilience Building workshop series in February and March 2023 to identify opportunities to build resilience in the watershed related to local climate change. The workshops, attended by staff and volunteers from entities across the district, focused on addressing climate hazards such as flooding, drought, extreme heat, and warming winters. Participants ranked flooding and extreme precipitation as the most pressing hazards to address, and identified vulnerable infrastructural, social, and environmental features across the watershed. The workshops resulted in a range of strategy suggestions, categorized by themes such as accessibility, agricultural BMPs, chlorides, collaboration, communication, and emergency planning. The report documents these strategies, including recommendations for targeting, prioritization, and entity responsibility, to help the Rice Creek Watershed District and its partners pursue climate resilience initiatives.
