Summary

A Redwoods National Park was proposed in 1964 by the National Park Service, with three possible alternatives. The Sierra Club supports an enlarged version, and it has been introduced to Congress with substantial support. Two areas are being considered: Mill Creek and Redwood Creek-Prairie Creek. The committee believes the Redwood Creek-Prairie Creek area is the better location, offering more opportunities for preservation and commercial use, with a larger variety of ecological and natural features, and less economic impact on the local community. The area provides 18 miles of coastline, 22 miles of river frontage, and opportunities for visitor dispersal, making it a more suitable location for a national park.
