Children born to young, unmarried mothers in the US face a higher risk of poverty, with over half of births to women under 30 occurring outside of marriage. Single mothers head nearly 25% of families, and 47% of children in single-mother families live below the federal poverty level. To address this, a social marketing campaign is proposed to educate low-income women about long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs) to prevent unintended pregnancies and reduce child poverty rates. Delaying childbirth until both parents are ready can improve child well-being and reduce poverty. Unintended pregnancy rates are highest among low-income women, and reducing these rates can decrease the number of children born to poor single mothers. Increasing awareness about LARCs through a social marketing campaign can help prevent unintended pregnancies and births.
