Summary

The Group expresses concern that the lack of political will to implement the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action has led to a resurgence of racism, and calls for decisive action to combat racism and its attendant ills. The Group supports the adoption of a Durban review process, and expresses appreciation for the report of the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of racism. The Group also calls for efforts to combat defamation of religions, and notes that freedom of expression should not infringe on the rights of others. Additionally, the Group supports the implementation of programmes to combat racism in sport, and commemorates the ending of the slave trade in the British Empire. The Group is fully committed to the implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, and calls upon the international community to summon the political will to make the Durban Programme of Action a living document through its full and effective implementation.
