The fashion industry is a $2.5 trillion-dollar industry employing 75 million people, mostly women, and has a significant environmental and social impact, contributing to 20% of global wastewater, 10% of carbon emissions, and using large amounts of insecticides and pesticides. To address these issues, a UN Partnership on Sustainable Fashion is proposed, which would require a coordinated approach from different UN organizations, civil society, and industry stakeholders to promote sustainable consumption patterns and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
