Summary

A procedure by Blaurock, modified by Paetzold, is described for culturing gonococci. The diagnosis of gonorrhea is typically accomplished through dyeing with methylene blue and Gram staining. However, not all urethral suppurations are gonorrheal, and other infections such as trichomonades, staphylococci, and streptococci can cause similar symptoms. The growth of cultures is necessary in doubtful cases, particularly in female gonococcus diseases and children's vulvovaginitis. A combined application of microscopic slide methods and culture methods promises optimum results. Meningococci can be identified through oxidase reaction, Gram-negative diplococci characteristics, and fermentation behavior. The document also discusses the transmission and prevention of meningococcal infections, including the role of healthy carriers and droplet infection.
