The purpose of this guideline is to ensure water quality safety by confirming whether the existing water supply pipes and equipment in buildings conform to the structural and material standards of the water supply system when switching from a water tank or private water supply to a direct water supply system.

The guideline defines terms such as "water supply device," "private water supply," "unauthorized renovation," "pressure test," "leaching test," "water quality test," and "rehabilitation work."

For switching from a water tank to a direct water supply system, the applicant must confirm the material and pressure resistance of the existing pipes and equipment, and conduct water quality tests before construction.

For switching from a private water supply to a direct water supply system, the applicant must also confirm the material and pressure resistance of the existing pipes and equipment, and conduct water quality tests before construction.

In cases where rehabilitation work has been performed, the applicant must provide documents such as a construction plan, a report on the rehabilitation work, and a certificate of compliance with the leaching performance standard.

The guideline also specifies the documents to be submitted to the water supply company, including a application form, a confirmation document for the material of the existing pipes, a certificate of water quality test results, and a certificate of compliance with the leaching performance standard.

The water supply company will conduct a document review and on-site inspection to verify the compliance of the construction with the guideline.

The guideline came into effect on March 1, 2006, and was revised on October 1, 2019.
