Summary

The World Health Organization (WHO) works with the World Trade Organization (WTO) to support countries in developing policies on international trade and health, maximizing health benefits and minimizing risks. WHO congratulates WTO Members for amending the TRIPS Agreement to allow countries with little pharmaceutical production capacity to import generic medicines. WHO focuses on analysis, research, and capacity-building to inform policy and practice, and will provide technical advice to Member States on implementing the TRIPS amendment, advocating for a simple and workable approach to achieve public health benefits from lower-priced medicines.
