The Committee for International Detente and Peace of Thessaloniki (EDYETH) is organizing a gathering to honor the memory of Grigoris Lambrakis, who was assassinated 60 years ago. The event will take place on May 22 at 7:00 pm at the Lambrakis monument in Thessaloniki. The committee calls on workers' and pensioners' unions, student associations, women's and youth organizations, and popular organizations to participate in the event and strengthen the anti-war and anti-imperialist peace movement. Lambrakis was killed on May 22, 1963, for his struggle against imperialism and war, and for peace, friendship, and cooperation among peoples. Today, 60 years after his assassination, the drums of war are beating loudly in the region, with intensified competition between the US-NATO-EU and Russia and China, and the ongoing imperialist war in Ukraine threatening to escalate with devastating consequences for the people. The EDYETH calls on the people to intensify the struggle to close US-NATO bases, stop Greece's participation in the imperialist war in Ukraine, and achieve real peace, friendship, and cooperation among peoples.
