Summary

Three studies examined Advance Care Planning (ACP) from the perspective of family caregivers. The first study, a systematic review of 41 studies, found that caregivers' experiences, knowledge, and attitudes towards ACP are crucial for effective ACP interventions. The second study, conducted in Switzerland, highlighted the need for improved communication and coordination between professionals, patients, and their proxies to facilitate ACP. The third study, a multicentre randomized controlled trial, found no significant differences in wellbeing between bereaved family caregivers who engaged in formal ACP and those who did not. A fourth study explored the factors influencing caregivers' engagement in ACP, identifying six result clusters, including skills of ACP initiators, patient-caregiver relationship, and disease-related factors.
