Summary

Children who fail the final hearing screen at birth and are 21 days or younger should receive a cCMV screen prior to hospital discharge. Hospitals should provide the "What do you know about CMV?" brochure to parents and use DCLS-provided materials for screening. Samples are collected using a buccal swab and sent to DCLS via courier within 24 hours. Results are provided electronically through VISITS within 24-72 hours. Samples must remain cold during shipping to avoid rejection. Hospitals can contact the VA EHDI program for additional questions or access to the courier system and VISITS.
