Summary

Four white British women who hadn't signed up to be organ donors were interviewed to explore their feelings on organ donation. The study found that the ability to detach from the body affects acceptance of organ donation, and that organ donation can trigger difficult thoughts. The family can be used to explain not having signed up, and communicating organ donation wishes to family is important. The findings confirm previous evidence but also offer insight on the discrepancy between attitudes and behaviors, and how fears can inhibit action.
