Summary

Appointments can be made in person or by telephone, and patients can ask to see a male or female doctor or nurse. The NHS also provides access to specialist doctors, hospitals, and other healthcare services, including dental care, eyesight tests, and prescriptions. In emergencies, patients can call 999 for an ambulance or visit the Accident and Emergency Department. For non-urgent health advice, patients can call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 or contact their local out-of-hours service.
