Summary

Manusia sangat tergantung pada lingkungan untuk kelangsungan hidupnya, dan interaksi dengan lingkungan dapat menguntungkan atau merugikan. Penyakit dapat terjadi karena adanya kuman penyakit, hewan pembawa penyakit, dan zat kimia beracun di alam. Penyakit menular seperti Covid-19, kolera, dan cacar dapat menyerang siapa saja dan menyebar dengan cepat. Kolera adalah penyakit menular di saluran pencernaan yang disebabkan oleh bakterium Vibrio cholerae, dan dapat menyebar melalui air minum yang terkontaminasi. Pada abad ke-20, pola persebaran kolera berbeda dengan pola persebaran pada abad ke-19, dan Jambi merupakan salah satu daerah yang terkena dampak kolera pada masa kolonial. Kondisi geografi Jambi, seperti sungai Batanghari, dan kebiasaan masyarakat yang kurang menjaga kebersihan, menyebabkan persebaran penyakit kolera cepat berkembang.
