Summary

Epilepsy12 &Us is a project by the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) that aims to improve epilepsy services for children and young people. The project involved clinic chats with over 130 children, young people, and families, and found that the top priority areas for improvement are: schools, support for worries and anxieties, and face-to-face support. Other key themes that emerged include the need for positive adult relationships, more services, practical help and tips, and better contact with healthcare services. Children and young people wanted more help with care plans, training in schools, and support to prevent bullying, as well as more understanding and awareness about epilepsy. They also wanted support to deal with worries and anxieties, such as explaining their condition, coping strategies, and transition to adult care. Additionally, they felt that there was a lack of support groups and specialist nurses, and wanted more events and activities to connect with others with epilepsy.
