NHS Blood and Transplant's Organ Donation and Transplantation Directorate, CTAG Heart Allocation Sub Group (HASG), met on April 5, 2018. The group discussed the revised UK Heart Allocation Scheme (2018), which will not use donor age to determine allocation, but instead use donor size based on height. The scheme will have six tiers, with patients stratified by clinical urgency and likelihood of survival. Tier 1 will have no zonal priority, while Tiers 3-6 will have zonal priority. The group decided to adopt Tier 1(S) for suspended patients, and removed the "blood group identical only" option from the transplant registration form. The revised scheme aims to improve the allocation of donor hearts and reduce waiting times.
