Summary

This pilot study investigated the reaction of 5 and 6-year-old children to dental injections after viewing the needle. Fourteen children received dental treatment in two sessions, with the needle either shown or hidden. The results showed that 11 children were cooperative and 3 uncooperative, regardless of the approach used. The children's behavior correlated with fears expressed by their mothers. The study's initial findings do not support the practice of hiding the needle, suggesting that showing the needle may be a more effective approach in reducing children's fear of dental injections.
