Summary

A retrospective analysis of combination chemotherapy with carboplatin plus paclitaxel in previously treated non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients was conducted. The study included 40 patients who received carboplatin and paclitaxel as second-line or later treatment. The patient characteristics were: 37 males, 3 females, median age 65, and 20 patients with stage IV disease. The response rate was 27.5%, disease control rate was 62.5%, median progression-free survival (PFS) was 5.0 months, and median overall survival (OS) was 14.0 months. The most common adverse events were neutropenia (45.0%), peripheral neuropathy (45.0%), and anemia (25.0%). The study suggests that carboplatin plus paclitaxel may be a viable treatment option for previously treated NSCLC patients, with a relatively safe profile. However, a prospective trial is needed to confirm the efficacy of this treatment in improving survival.
