Summary

Kapitän Ejnar Mikkelsen ist im 91. Lebensjahr verstorben. Er war der letzte der alten Garde der klassischen Polarreisen und hatte eine fruchtbare Auswertung seiner Erfahrungen in der Arktis, insbesondere auf Grönland. Mikkelsen nahm an mehreren Expeditionen teil, darunter die "Baldwin-Ziegler Nordpol-Expedition" und die "Duchess of Bedford"-Expedition. Er führte auch die "Alabama"-Expedition, bei der er und sein Begleiter Iversen dreimal auf der Shannon-Insel überwintern mussten. Mikkelsen gründete später die Kolonie Scoresby-Sund und war als Ostgrönland-Spezialist im Auftrag seiner Regierung tätig. Seine Erfahrungen und Erlebnisse hat er in mehreren Büchern veröffentlicht, darunter "Ein arktischer Robinson" und "Nachbarn des Nordpols".
