The Canon of Dutch Christian Democracy is a historical account of Christian Democracy in the Netherlands, spanning from the mid-19th century to 2010. It consists of 40 lemmata, outlining key events, milestones, and policy issues that shaped the movement. The editors, including Raymond Gradus, George Harinck, and Hans-Martien ten Napel, compiled the Canon with the support of various researchers and institutions. The account begins with the publication of Guillaume Groen van Prinsterer's book "Ongeloof en Revolutie" (Unbelief and Revolution) in 1847 and covers the founding of the ARP (1879), CHU (1908), and KVP (1945) parties, as well as the establishment of the CDA (1980). The Canon also explores significant events, such as the formation of the Dutch 'equipe' in Europe, and reports like "Grondslag en karakter" (1966) and "Nieuwe wegen, vaste waarden" (1995). The editors aim to provide a varied and historically correct account of Christian Democracy in the Netherlands, with the hope that the Canon will serve as a starting point for discussions on the importance of Christian Democratic heritage.
