Summary

The National Archives and Records Administration published a microfilm collection, M1947, containing records from the Wiesbaden Central Collecting Point, 1945-1952. The collection includes administrative records, photographs of artworks, and property cards related to Nazi-looted works of art and artifacts recovered by the Monuments, Fine Arts, and Archives Section. The records are part of the "Ardelia Hall Collection" and document the U.S. occupation of Germany, restitution claims, and the preservation of cultural property. The Wiesbaden Central Collecting Point was one of four U.S. central collecting points, specializing in German-owned material, internal loot, and objects subject to restitution, with approximately 700,000 objects at its height. The collection provides insight into the administration of the U.S. zone of occupation, the Office of Military Government, and the transition to civilian occupation administration.
