Summary

La chiesa di San Pietro Apostolo a Ostuni ha origini complesse, con la prima menzione di una chiesa annessa al monastero delle monache benedettine nel 1519. Il monastero è anteriore al 1267 e la chiesa attuale fu costruita nel 1659. La facciata è semplice, mentre l'interno è a unica aula con quattro altari, tra cui il maggiore in pietra gentile con colonne a spire e statue di San Benedetto e San Pietro. La pala d'altare rappresenta la Vergine con Bambino assisa su una nube tra angeli, con chiara ispirazione veneta. Gli altari laterali sono dedicati alla Santissima Vergine di Loreto e alla Vergine incoronata dalla Santissima Trinità e sant'Oronzo. La chiesa contiene anche sculture dell'Addolorata e dell'Immacolata, quest'ultima del 1719, scolpita da Giacomo Colombo.
