Summary

The Lutheran church practices "close communion," where only those who share the same doctrine and faith are allowed to participate in the Lord's Supper. This practice is based on biblical teachings, such as 1 Corinthians 10 and 11, which emphasize the importance of unity in faith and doctrine. The church believes that the Lord's Supper is a public profession of faith and a declaration of unity with Christ and with other believers. By practicing close communion, the church seeks to prevent a profession of confessional unity where there is disunity and disagreement, and to preserve the integrity of its witness to the Gospel. The church's motive for practicing close communion is not to be separatistic or judgmental, but rather to follow Christ's command and to protect its members from harmful teachings.
