Summary

Dionisio Cañas, en su libro "El fin de las razas felices", presenta una visión apocalíptica de Nueva York, donde la violencia y la decadencia se entrelazan con la audacia de la posmodernidad. Cañas, poeta nacido en 1949 en Tomelloso, Ciudad Real, y radicado en Nueva York desde 1973, se inscribe en la tradición de los poetas malditos, dando cuenta de la catástrofe y la decadencia de la sociedad contemporánea. El libro se estructura en tres unidades: "Ofrenda", "Pelea" y "Apocalipsis", y se enmarca en una estética posmoderna que se apropia de elementos culturales preexistentes. La sección tercera del libro revela la riqueza del lenguaje poético de Cañas, con una representación apocalíptica de corte urbano, donde Manhattan es el escenario primordial. El poeta utiliza la imaginería apocalíptica, pero transforma los elementos bíblicos en un contexto histórico y contemporáneo de Nueva York. El personaje principal del libro es una criatura final de una raza feliz, llamada a desaparecer en la noche de la Historia, y se presenta como un desterrado.
