Gordon Kampe, 1976 in Herne geboren, studierte Komposition bei Hans-Joachim Hespos und Adriana Hölszky in Rostock und bei Nicolaus A. Huber in Essen. Er war von 2000 bis 2003 Kirchenmusiker der Johanniskirche in Herne und promovierte 2008 in Musikwissenschaft an der Folkwang Hochschule in Essen. Kampe erhielt zahlreiche Preise und Auszeichnungen, darunter den Kompositionspreis der Landeshauptstadt Stuttgart und den Komponisten-Förderpreis der Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung. Seine Werke wurden von renommierten Ensembles und Orchestern aufgeführt, wie dem Ensemble Modern, dem Klangforum Wien und dem hr-Sinfonieorchester. Kampe ist bekannt für seine suitenartigen Kompositionen, die aus lauter miniaturisierten Einzelteilen zusammengesetzt sind und eine Reihung kleiner, aber in sich geschlossener Formen bilden. Seine Musik zeichnet sich durch eine Mischung aus hoher Kunst und banaler Alltäglichkeit aus und spielt mit offenen und verdeckten Bezügen zwischen verschiedenen Elementen.
