Summary

A new airborne broadband radiometer system, BACARDI, measures upward and downward solar and thermal-infrared irradiance, with two sets of pyranometers and pyrgeometers installed in a passively ventilated fairing to reduce dynamic environment effects. The system corrects dynamic thermal offsets using a parameterization based on the rate of change of radiometer sensor temperatures, providing a linear correction function. BACARDI measurements from the EUREC4A field campaign demonstrate the system's performance and correction accuracy, with thermal offset correction limiting bias to below 10 W m−2.
